Over 20 Years of Union Activism
Barry Lamont has been a union activist for over 20 years and has worked for Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) for nearly 16 years. He currently serves as your ESDC representative on the Ontario Regional Council (ORC). He is also the President of CEIU Local 576, Chair of the Windsor District Area Council, and the ESDC Regional Health and Safety Representative.
He sits on numerous LUMCCs as well as the RUMCC. Barry completed his Honours degree in Labour Studies and a Master of Arts, with a focus on unions, at McMaster University. He also participates at multiple tables focused on collective bargaining, members with disabilities, and the Windsor District Labour Council.
Barry was the Regional Strike Coordinator for the Windsor region during the last strike and continues to be very active on picket lines and at protests advocating for healthcare, issues impacting women and transgender youth, Canada Life benefits, Phoenix pay issues, and pensions. He has stood in front of cars and trucks at the border and has frequently spoken with Members of Parliament to help create change in the public sector.
He is a proud husband of over 17 years and the father of a daughter, along with two dogs—but that doesn't slow him down.
